The Power of Fathers: A Community Conversation for the Future of Tulsa
Join us for conversation on fatherhood lead by Calvin Williams, Director of Fatherhood Ser vices at Public Strategies, Inc. and co-author of the “On My Shoulders” curriculum. The forum will allow participants to explore the social phenomenon of father absence, examine the impact of father absence on children , challenge common notions about father presence and create a dialogue about fathers and fatherhood in Tulsa.

The documentary film Reject summarizes current research about the physiological impact of social rejection and how it can lead to serious consequences such as violence and suicide. The film highlights a program, "You can't say You can't play," that was inspired by the work of Vivian Paley. The strategies help young students learn to be inclusive. Amanda Harrist, Bryan Close Professor in Human Development and Family Science, is one of the researchers featured in the film.

"MyHealth Access Network: Building a Laboratory for Community Health Assessment and Improvement"
David Kendrick, M.D., M.P.H., chief executive officer of Greater Tulsa Health Access Network

Kendrick will discuss how utilizing electronic health records can impact community health and the role that health systems and family research play in health initiatives. Kendrick will also discuss how MyHealth Access Network, a non-profit coalition, can assist in research efforts and improve health care quality while controlling costs. The lecture, hosted by the OSU Center for Family Resilience, OSU-Tulsa and OSU Center for Health Sciences, is free and open to the public. The lecture will also be broadcast to Stillwater and available for viewing at a later date on the CFR website. Lunch will be provided for participants in Tulsa.
